Gary Dean Thornley, 66, a resident of Alvin, Texas passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2008 after a long battle with cancer. Gary was born in Antlers, Oklahoma to Leo Dean Thornley and Mattie Vaudine Herman Thornley. The family moved to Texas in 1943.
Gary graduated from Andrews High School in 1960. He started working for Fish Engineering and Construction in 1965 building refineries and chemical plants. He worked for their Houston office and moved to Alvin in 1975. Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, his German Shepherds and his homing pigeons.
Gary joined a local pigeon flying club in 1987 and became President of the Texas Center Racing Pigeon Union in July 2000 until July 2007.
Gary was married to Linda Sue Harrison Thornley for 39 years and to their union were two children: Kimberly Lynn Thornley Kovar of Caldwell, Texas and Scottie Joe Thornley of Alvin, Texas. He had a granddaughter: Ashley Ellen, and three brothers: Johnny Lee of Livingston, Texas, Roy Calvin of Charleston, South Carolina and Leo Dean Jr. of Henderson, Texas.
