Loyd E. Hawkins

Funeral services for Loyd E. Hawkins will be held on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Spencerville Community Church with Bruce Bloodworth officiating and burial following in Spencerville Cemetery in Spencerville, Oklahoma. Mr. Hawkins passed away Thursday, February 11, 2010 in Apple, OK at the age of 85. He was born April 22, 1924 in Dela, OK, the son of R. L. and Maggie (Denton) Hawkins Crawford. He was raised in this area and lived here all his life.

He married Ollie B. Baskin on March 15, 1941, in Spencerville, OK and they were married until her death in 2007. She was the love of his life and together they had five children.

He was an avid fisherman, with his wife being his best fishing buddy. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a prankster, always trying to think of some way he could pull a joke on someone, anything for a good laugh. He was a hard worker, believed you could not do anything you set your mind to do. The words, “I can’t†were not in his vocabulary.

He served our country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Loyd has always been a farmer & rancher in the Apple Community, and was the proud owner and operator of a local saw mill for many years.

Loyd was preceded in death by his parents, R.L. Hawkins and Maggie Crawford; his wife Ollie B. Hawkins; brother: Ruben Hawkins son: Lowell “Shorty†Hawkins; grandson: Steve Pitt; son-in-law: James “Ted†Earnest; two brothers-in-law: John Baskin and Dan Baskin.

Loyd is survived by two sons: Jimmy (Linda) Hawkins of Rattan, OK, Billy “Bruce†Hawkins of Apple, OK; two daughters: Barbara Earnest of Hugo, OK, Jo (Phil) Stammen of Roseburg, OR; one daughter-in-law: Sue Hawkins of Durant, OK; two brothers-in-law: Delbert Baskin of Roseburg, OR, Don (Ruth) Baskin of Antlers, OK; one sister-in-law: Dorothy Jackson of Ft. Towson, OK; Thirteen grandchildren: Ashley (Allison) Hawkins of Finley, OK, Melissa (Brett) Miller of Ft. Towson, OK, Greg Duncan of Spencerville, OK, Rhonda Hammonds of Aberdeen OH, Kerri (Will) Eastwood of Aberdeen, OH, Todd (Sammye) Pitt of Spencerville, OK, Michael Stammen of Roseburg, OR, Lindsey (Joe) Thornton of Oakland, OR, Ashley Phillips of Rufe, OK, Monica Morton of Apple, OK, Cindy Buchanan of Durant, OK, Amanda (David) Ferrell of Coleman, OK, Brooke Beasley of Foreman, AR; Twenty four great-grandchildren: Ashlyn & Deonna Owens of Aberdeen, OH; Kaleigh Eastwood of Aberdeen, OH, Shawna Wheeler of Hugo, OK, Brian (Becky) Ashlock of Valliant, OK, Cody Pitt of Spencerville, OK, Ryan Pitt of Big Lake, AK, Katherine Cox of CA, Alyssa, Emma & Tucker Loyd Thornton of Oakland, OR, Matthew, Nathanial & Jonathan Stammen of Southerlin, OR, Blake Morton of Apple, OK, Reed Buchanan of Durant, OK, Madison & Hunter Hawkins of Finley, OK, Faith & Asa Miller of Ft. Towson, OK, Conner, Caroline & Callie Beasley of Foreman, AR, Three great-great grandchildren: Paris Wheeler of Hugo, OK, Michigan & Brooklyn Ashlock of Valliant, OK. Loyd leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and a host of friends.

The family will receive friends Monday, February 15, 2010 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Chapel.
