Ben Colbert, Sr.

Funeral services for Ben Colbert Sr. will be held on Tuesday, September 28, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Chapel with Pastor Don Wagner officiating and burial  following in the Soper Cemetery. Ben passed away Saturday, September 25, 2010, in Soper, Oklahoma, at the age of 82.

Ben Colbert Sr. was born June 6, 1928, in Soper, Oklahoma the son of Frank and Salor (Homer) Colbert. He lived in this area all of his life. He married Wilma Jean Colbert on December 2, 1947, in Paris, TX. For about 40 years he worked in construction, working on bridges for a majority of that time. Ben enjoyed fishing and coon hunting, and spent some time raising and training bluetick hounds. He was known for his gardening; which included greens, polk salad, cayenne and jalepeno peppers. You could always find Ben near the coffee pot.

He was preceded in death by parents; his wife, Wilma Jean Colbert; one son, Jimmy Harold Colbert; one sister, Estherline James; one brother, Hampton Colbert.

Benjamin is survived by eight children, JoEllen Davenport of Hugo, OK, Jeanette Hudlin and husband Calvin of Soper, OK, Patricia Rodriguez of Garland, TX, Benjamin Colbert, Jr. and wife Debra of Soper, OK, Beverly Colbert of Soper, OK, Leslie Flanagan and husband Jerry of Garland, TX, Rita Colbert of Soper, OK, and Karen Sant of Mesquite, TX; fourteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; three brothers, Andrew Colbert, Richard Colbert, and Royce V. Colbert; one sister, Freda (Colbert) Ashby; numerous neices and nephews.

The family will receive friends Monday, September 27, 2010, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Chapel in Hugo, OK.
