Graveside funeral services for Bennie Hockersmith will be held on Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. in Sawyer Cemetery with Paul Golden officiating and burial following in the Sawyer Cemetery.
Bennie passed away Thursday, November 11, 2010 in Alvin, Texas, at the age of 88. Bennie was born November 12, 1921 in Ardmore, Oklahoma, the son of Jim and Emma (Orum) Hockersmith. He had lived in the Sawyer area for fifty years before moving to Alvin, Texas to be near family in 2007. Bennie married Daphine Cook on January 21, 1945 in Reno, Nevada. Bennie was a member of the Light Christian Church in Alvin, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Daphine Hockersmith in 1993; infant son, Delbert Earl Hockersmith; two sisters, Elda Stokley and Juanita Daniel; brother-in-law, Deaton Daniel; and mother-in-law, Celeste Dover.
Bennie is survived three children, Benny Dwayne Hockersmith & wife Lenita of Springfield, Virginia, daughter Pam Cundiff & husband Tony of Alvin, Texas, daughter Sheila Brock of Wills Point, Texas; 9 grandchildren, Sean Hockersmith, Lyndell Hockersmith, Brett Hockersmith, Chanda Finley; Shad Cundiff, Nathan Cundiff, Chance Cundiff, Casey Brock, and Tyler Brock; 9 great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.
