Funeral services for Jerry Worthy will be held on Monday, May 2, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at the Clayton Avenue Baptist Church with Shawn Robertson officiating, and burial following in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Jerry passed from this life while surrounded by family on Thursday, April 28, 2016, in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 69.
Jerry Lynn Worthy was born November 3, 1946, in Oklahoma City, OK, the son of Isom and Madie (Searles) Worthy. Jerry lived in Oklahoma City as a child and the family moved to Choctaw County in 1950. Jerry attended Goodland Elementary, Grant Junior High, and graduated from Soper High School in 1964. Following high school, he attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University for two years. Jerry married Linda Kay Stapleton on February 25, 1967, and together they were about to celebrate 50 years together.
Jerry worked in Dallas at Dresser Industry for ten years before moving his family back home. In Hugo he worked at OTASCO for five years before beginning at Earthgrains where he retired after twenty years. In his later years he enjoyed raising some cattle out on the home place and playing with Clyde, his cow dog. Jerry enjoyed being outside and gardening, sharing his bounty with friends and family. He was a real family man, enjoyed watching his grandchildren play baseball, and helped them show animals. In addition, he loved to care for his moma. Jerry was a member of the Clayton Avenue Baptist Church and enjoyed Larry Cody’s Adult Mens Sunday School Class.
Jerry is survived by his wife Linda of the home; son and daughter-in-law, John and Marsha Worthy of Hugo, OK, daughter and son-in-law, Vicky and Mark Hudson of Tuttle, OK; grandchildren, Jessi Tollett, Kane Worthy, and Kolby Worthy; brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Elizabeth Worthy of Durant, OK; his mother, Madie Worthy of Hugo, OK; many nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Isom Worthy in 2003.
