Funeral services for Walter White, Hugo’s Grand Marshall, will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug McClure officiating, and burial following in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Hugo, OK. Walter walked the final journey in life’s parade on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, in Hugo, OK at the age of 88.

Walter White was born April 23, 1924, in Ft. Towson, Oklahoma, the son of William “Bill”¯ Augusta White and Neva (Abernathy) White. Walter had lived in this area all his life, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He had served in the U.S. Navy. He owned and operated Walter White General Insurance Agency, as multi-line company representative in Hugo for many years. Walter married Mary Ann Hammock, on September 9, 1965, in Hugo, OK, and she preceded him in death in March, 2011.

Walter was very active and had become known by many as “Mr. Hugo”¯ always promoting the community he loved. From the Chamber, Blue Grass, Circus, Museum, RV Park, State Park, Marina, Lt. Governor’s Turkey Hunt, Annual Crappie Fishing Tournament, to Bus Tours and Visitor Convention Promotions across several States.¦Walter was there. He was always smiling and glad to see everyone having a good time.

One of Walter’s favorite things to do was have a Parade! He is known as the Parade Master by folks all around. Each year he organized the the Rodeo/Homecoming Parade, the Fire Truck Parade, and the Christmas Parade, bringing Santa to Town on the elephant! The job was monumentous, but he just pulled it together without a hitch, including judges, prizes, and crowds. As the old saying goes, who will step up and try to fill his shoes?

Walter is survived by two sons, Tom White and his wife Charla of Hugo, OK, Jim White and his wife Janet of Hugo, OK; one daughter, Jill Eddinger and husband Jon of Hugo, OK; one sister-in-law, Betty Wallace and husband Ed of Hugo, OK; seven grandchildren, Kacey White, Mollie White, Lige White, Ross Eddinger, Alex Eddinger, Kali White, and Cody White all of Hugo, OK.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his memory to the Hugo Area Chamber of Commerce, Attn: Parade & Special Activities Account.

The family will receive friends Friday, March 1, 2013, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. in the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home in Hugo, OK.
