Wayland Gerald Pence

Funeral services for Wayland Pence will be held at the Clayton Avenue Baptist Church on Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Richard Norman officiating, and burial following in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Wayland Pence, age 75, of Hugo, OK died on Sunday, November 12, 2017, in Hugo, Oklahoma.

The family will receive friends on Monday, November 13, 2017, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home Chapel.

Wayland Gerald Pence was born April 16, 1942, in Hugo, Oklahoma, the son of William Thomas and Viola Marie (Payne) Pence. Wayland graduated from Crooked Oak High School before heading out to work across the USA working pipelines and as a crane operator. He moved back to this area and worked for Sharp Crane Company assisting with the building of Campbell Soup and Kimberly Clark among other commercial builds before his retirement. Early in his career he worked in electronics assisting with the building and development of the Ross Concrete Plants that are now used by Rustin in this area. Wayland enjoyed gardening where he grew all types of vegetables and fruit that he used to make homemade wines. He was an avid hunter and fisherman as well as collector of guns and knives. In addition, He enjoyed cooking for family. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Linda “Dickerson” Pence in 1999; and his brother, William Dale Pence in 1988.

Wayland is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Fulton and husband, Robert, of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; two sons, Roger Pence and wife, Elizabeth Turo, of Tahlequah, OK, and Richard Rau of Ponca City, OK; his step-children include Ronda Orr, Yvonne White, Scott Dickerson, and Yvette Young; eight grandchildren, Hunter Fulton, Gabreil Fulton, Brenna Fulton, Ashleigh Ray, Anthony Pence, Matthew Pence, Aaron Pence, and Abigail Pence; three great-grandchildren, Kyler, Paige, and Caroline; six step-grandchildren, Jessica Orr, Scott Orr Joshua Schnitker, John Nicks, Kenny Jenkins, and Dusty Dickerson; and seven step-great-grandchildren, Breale Walker, Cali Walker, JT Nicks, Zander Nicks, Eli Nicks, Taytum Nicks, and Shannon Jenkins; two brothers, Dewayne Pence of Hugo, Thomas Pence and wife, Lavanda, of Hugo, OK; one sister, Lacricia Norman and husband, Richard, of Oklahoma City, OK; two nephews, Tommy Pence and Ryan Pence; four nieces, Jacquetta Searles, Toni Smith, Quendolia Wilczek and Sherri Comstock; sixteen great-grand nieces and nephews; eight great-great-grand nieces and nephews.
