Roy Eugene Lyles, Sr.

Funeral services for Roy Eugene Lyles Sr. will be held on Wednesday, November 18, 2015, at 2:00 pm in the First Christian Church of Hugo, OK with Pastor Roger Barnes officiating and burial following in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Hugo, OK. Roy passed from this life peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, November 14, 2015, at the age of 92.

Roy Eugene Lyles was born August 1, 1923, in Hugo, OK, the son of Henry Clarence Lyles Sr. and Audrey Louise (Freeman) Lyles. Roy was a graduate of Hugo High School Class of 1947, and attended one year at Southeastern in Durant. He married Betty Jo Oakes on September 1, 1948 in Dequeen, AR. He was a member and elder of First Christian Church in Hugo, OK. He was a Past Master and member of the Hugo Masonic Lodge for 68 years, as well as being a 32nd Degree Mason. He received a pharmacy degree from the University of Oklahoma, and owned the Sooner Drug Store twenty-two and a half years. Roy served with the Oklahoma 45th Division Company F (Hugo) during World War II, serving in Sicily, Salerno, Anzio, south of France and Germany for five years. He was called back with the Oklahoma National Guard in August 1950, serving as Company Commander of the Medical unit from Wewoka, Oklahoma to serve in the Korean War for two years. He spent 511 combat days in WW II and 200 in Korean combat. Roy retired from the Military with twenty-two years of service as a Captain. Roy served as CEO of the Citizens State Bank, the business manager of the Hugo Hospital, and acting administrator of the Choctaw Hospital in Talihina. Retiring as the Director of the Choctaw Indian Clinic in Hugo in 1997. Roy was active in community affairs, such as President of the Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of Urban Renewal committee, planning and zoning committee. The Democratic Party, past President of District 10 Oklahoma Pharmacy Association. Roy and Betty have served on the Hugo High School Reunion committee since 1968. (Class of 47, 48, 49, 50)

Roy is survived by his wife, Betty Lyles of Hugo, OK; son, Roy Eugene Lyles Jr. of Hugo, OK; daughter and son in law, Deborah Ann and Terry Park of Hugo, OK; brothers and sister in law, Henry Clarence Lyles Jr. of Hugo, OK, Paul Edward and Karen Lyles of Hugo, OK; grandchildren, Christina Ann Capers of Broken Arrow, OK, Angela Jo and husband Michael Sparks of Hugo, OK; great-grandchildren, Alyssa Ann Wright of Hugo, OK, Ethan Wayne Sparks of Hugo, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Clarence Lyles Sr, Audrey Louise (Freeman) Lyles, and one brother, Jack Lafoy Lyles.

The family will receive friends at Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home Chapel from 5:30-6:30 pm on Tuesday, November 17, 2015.
