Graveside services for Janet Hampton will be held on Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, at 2 p.m. in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Doug McClure officiating and burial following in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Janet died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, in Durant, Oklahoma at the age of 63.
Janet Hampton was born Nov. 15, 1946, in Hugo, Okla., the daughter of Garth and Ruth (Hunkapillar) Hampton. She was raised in Hugo and later received a bachelor’s degree in sociology from S.O.S.U. in Durant. Janet loved to help people and began her career in social work in Atoka County, moved to Pushmataha County, and in 1978 became a supervisor in Choctaw County at DHS where she retired after 39 years. Janet was of the Baptist faith, loved to read and cook Sunday dinner for her family. Her special joy was taking care of her grandson Nate.
Janet is survived by one daughter and son-in-law: Amy and Wade Scott of Hugo, Okla.; one brother: Moose Hampton of Hugo, Okla.; one nephew: Tim Hampton of Durant, Okla.; one aunt: Ruby Percival of Paris, Texas; three cousins: Monda Fugett of Reno, Texas, Gretta Lee of Oklahoma City, and Frances Harrison of Midwest City, Okla.; three grandchildren: Nate, Cade and Lain.
The family will receive friends Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, from 2–3 p.m. in the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Chapel. Family and friends are invited to sign the guest book or send private condolences to the family at www.praterlampton.com.
