Funeral services for Raymond Howard Forbus will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at 4th Street & Jackson Church of Christ with Bro. Bob Walling officiating and burial following in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Raymond passed away Thursday, February 2, 2012, in Hugo, Oklahoma, at the age of 89. Raymond Howard Forbus was born August 20, 1922, in Ozark, AR, the son of James Orville and Nora (Sutliff) Forbus. He married Dora Jean Houchen on July 30, 1954, in Hugo, OK. He served his country in the United States Marines during WWII and received the Purple Heart, Navy Cross, Navy Marine Corps. Asiatic Campaign, Heroism, American Campaign, and numerous ribbons. He had lived in this area most of his life and was a member of the Messer Church of Christ. Raymond taught school in the public schools at Messer School District, Irving, TX, and Hugo, OK for 29 years. He enjoyed gardening and walking through the woods. Raymond loved spending time with his grandchildren, and took every opportunity he had to teach them and others. He was a member of the DAV, American Legion, and Foresters.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Arlyn Forbus, Sherman Forbus, and James Roland Forbus and wife Joyce Forbus; sisters, Lois Forbus Newman and Altha Alexander; granddaughter, Angela Alonzo; brother-in-law, Bill Houchen.

Raymond is survived by his wife, Jean Forbus of the home; son, David Forbus and wife Martha of North Richland Hills, TX; two daughters, Carol Diane Michael and husband Jim of Durant, OK, and Debra Forbus Alonzo of Irving, TX; five grandsons, Joshua Michael and wife Ranee, and John Michael, all of Durant, OK, Matthew Forbus and wife Mandy of Ft. Worth, TX, Dustin Forbus and Andrew Forbus, both of North Richland Hills, TX; two granddaughters, Wendy Talley and husband John of Calera, OK, and Jessica Alonzo of Ft. Worth, TX; seven great-grandchildren, Triston Michael, Jordan Michael, Jacob Michael, Samuel Michael, J.T. Talley III, Trever James Talley, Dylan Forbus, and Arley Forbus; two brothers, Delbert Forbus of Hugo, OK, and Gene Forbus of Millington, TN; one sister, Helen Christianson of Heber Springs, AR; one sister-in-law, Joyce Forbus of Hugo, OK; other relatives, brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Carol Houchen of Trenton, TX, Ken and Janet Houchen of Hugo, OK; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends, and special friends including Alan Young, Barbara & Richard Payne, and Kaletta Kelley.

The family will receive friends Friday, February 3, 2012, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Chapel in Hugo, OK.
