Billy P. Farr

Billy P. Farr, 83, of Soper, Oklahoma, went to be with the Lord November 3, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family. Mr. Farr was the son of Melvin Sr. and Inez Velma (Hawkins) Farr.

Bill was born March 12, 1934, reared near the Dye Community in Cooke County Texas, which is six miles southeast of Gainesville Texas. Bill graduated from Gainesville High School in 1952 and then attended and graduated from Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, TX. While attending Hardin Simmons, Bill played in the Famous Cowboy Band and was honored to play in President Dwight D. Eisenhower inauguration parade.

Bill was attending Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary when his brother was killed in a farm accident. He returned home to manage the family farm. Bill sold coastal Bermuda grass roots to the Noble Foundation and many people in multiple states. He was awarded Outstanding Comeback Farmer by the Upper Elm - Red Soil & Water Conservation District (UERSWCD) in 1966, Star Young Farmer, Area V, 1967-1968, Distinguished Service Award, Director Cooke County Electric Cooperative Association, 1976-1987 and Outstanding Conservation Farmer by the Upper Elm - Red Soil & Water Conservation District in 1986. Billy served as Cooke County Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Service board member for several years. Bill worked as a farmer (peanuts and hay) and rancher his whole life. When he wasn’t working or spending time with his family, Bill enjoyed hunting and going to Colorado with family and friends.

Serving and loving the Lord was always first and foremost in his life; along with his deep love for his family.

Bill is survived by the love of his life whom he was married to for over 61 years, Mergie Lee (Landgraf) Farr, of Soper, OK; three daughters Ramona Tyler and husband Rod of Gainesville, TX; Brenda Amyx and husband Curtis of Sanger, TX; Phyllis Coffey and husband Jimmie Dean of Bloomington, IN, one son Calvin Farr and wife Deanna of Madill, OK and Gene Thompson of Denison, TX and Bary Clower of Santo, TX who are thought of and loved like sons; three grandchildren Dalinda Damm and husband Phil of Pinedale, WY, Christa Barlow and husband Jarrod of Stillwater, OK, Cody Coffey and fiancé Emily Sims of Bloomington, IN and Lindsey Belie who he thought of as a granddaughter; three great-grandsons Landon Barlow and Morgan & Reid Damm. He is also survived by two nephews, Michael Northrop of Seattle, WA and Charles Northrop and wife Toni of Rio Linda, CA.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Melvin Jr., sister, Merl Northrop and grandson Billy Craig Dennis.

Bill will be dearly missed and will leave a loss in our hearts and in our family that will never be filled. The family was so blessed to have him as a Husband, Father and PaPa, he was truly one of a kind and his memory will forever be cherished by family and friends.

Arrangements are under the direction of Prater-Lampton-Mills and Coffey Funeral Home, Hugo, OK. Family will receive friends Tuesday, November 7, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home, also from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. prior to the service to celebrate his life at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at First Baptist Church of Hugo, OK with Pastor Doug McClure and Pastor Dean Young officiating. Burial to follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hugo OK.

Serving as pallbearers are: Ronny Bartee, Billy Blankenship, Casey Boling, Bary Clower, Kent Davis, Richard Higginbotham, Richard Moffatt, and Gene Thompson. Serving as honorary pallbearers: Corliss Currie, Howard Kidd, Dalton Proffer, Randy Sample, Wayne Sample and Joe Ware.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be given to the First Baptist Church of Hugo or Hugo Pregnancy Center.
