Her given name was Wanda. Her family called her "Wannie"¯ or "Momma Doane".¯ But to everyone else she was affectionately as "Meme". She loved being around her family more than anything else and never met a stranger. She also enjoyed going to yard sales or auctions with whatever "driving friend"¯ was available. Although Meme never learned to drive, she was not idle. Every evening at 5, Meme found a ride to the coffee shop where she enjoyed tea, coffee, and conversation with her precious friends. She was dearly loved not only by her family, but also by everyone who knew her. This possibly was because Meme was an avid note writer. She never forgot anyone’s birthday or anniversary. Even throughout her illness, Meme sent cards and letters of encouragement to family & friends. Her life began in depression era Texas in a large, loving family and ended in Hugo, surrounded by a much larger and even more loving family. Meme loved and was loved by all. Her bright smile and sparkling eyes will be missed for all time. She was our sweet, shining light.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 2, 2010 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at the Prater-Lampton Mills & Coffey Chapel.
