Funeral services for Jimmie Wayne Barnett will be held on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Chapel with Rev. Burgie Thompson, Pastor Mark Davis, and Pastor Monty Wood officiating and burial following in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Jimmie passed away Friday, April 6, 2012, in Plano, Texas, at the age of 79.
Jimmie Wayne Barnett was born January 27, 1933, in Grant, Oklahoma, the son of James E. and Katherine (Smith) Barnett. He joined the army at the age of 16, served two years, returned and finished high school, graduating from Hugo High School. He joined the Air Force and retired after 27 years as Master Sergeant, during his time in the Air Force he played ball until he was 35 years old. He enjoyed basketball and other sports. He spent time as a football, baseball, and American Legion coach. Jim married Jo McClellan Young on October 26, 1978 they enjoyed 33 years of marriage. Jim was the American Legion Post Commander, City Clerk, and VA Rep at Hugo for 12 years. He earned his business degree at SWOSU. Jim loved God, his family, and his country. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids, had a great sense of humor, and experienced many things in his life. He was very active outdoors enjoying golf, fishing, and hunting. Jim was an auctioneer; a lay minister at the Baptist church and a member of the Unity Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Priscilla Cote.
Jimmie is survived by his wife Jo Barnett of the home; eight children, Jimmie Wayne "Rocky" Barnett Jr. and wife Julie of West Valley City, UT, Tonda Jo young of Hugo, OK, Trent Franklin Young of Oklahoma City, OK, Tammy Wood and husband Pastor Monty of Armstrong, OK, Krista Lynn Wiles and husband Willie of Checotah, OK, Trena Marie Davis and husband Pastor Mark of Carney, OK, James Eric Barnett of Hugo, OK, Aubrey Shoemaker and husband Jason of Meade, OK; twenty-eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rebekah Nyman of Phoenix, AZ, Deborah Bishop of Gainesville, TX, and Barbara Grant of Hugo, OK.

The family will receive friends Monday, April 9, 2012, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Chapel in Hugo, OK.
