Funeral services for Lynn Abernathy will be held on Monday, April 18th, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. in the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home in Hugo, Oklahoma, with Rev. Dick McClure officiating and burial following in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Hugo, Oklahoma.

Lynn passed away Friday, April 15, 2011, in Paris, TX, at the age of 85. Lynn Abernathy was born on October 2, 1925, in Murphy, Oklahoma, the son of Ivy LaFayette and Elsie Gertrude (Southerland) Abernathy. He had lived in this area most of his life and was a member of the Victory Baptist Church. Lynn married Mattie B. Compton on May 2, 2004, in Hugo, OK. He started his career for Public Service as a lineman and then retired as a manager. He loved hunting, fishing, going out to eat, and especially "coconut pie".

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife of 52 years, Elisa Elizondo Abernathy; one son, Robert Lynn Abernathy; two brothers, Wylie Abernathy and Floyd Abernathy; three sisters, Ova Baker, Bernice Hutchings, and Dovie McNiel.

Lynn is survived by his wife, Mattie B. Abernathy of the home; one daughter, Letha Ann Mitchell and husband Floyd of Durant, OK; two granddaughters, Danielle Mitchell and Kelley Mitchell, both of Dallas, TX; two step-sons, Mike Compton and Ricky Compton, both of Hugo, OK; two step-daughters, Debbie Greer of Hugo, OK and Twonette Greer of Sawyer, OK; six step-grandchildren, fourteen step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great grandchild.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 17, 2011, from 3:00-4:00 p.m. in the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Chapel in Hugo, OK.
