Memorial services for Jack Edward Murray will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home with Bruce Bloodworth officiating. Jack passed away Saturday, March 23, 2013, in Hugo, Oklahoma, at the age of 93.

Jack Edward Murray was born October 8, 1919, in Speer, OK, to Charles Edward and Alice (Barham) Murray. Jack was appointed as Postmaster at Speer, OK in 1945 and the Post Office closed in 1960 and Jack was transferred to the Hugo Post Office and retired there after thirty years of service in 1975. While working at the Post Office, Jack continued to buy more land and cattle as ranching was his life and he brought a new grass to Oklahoma from Greenville, Mississippi. He planted those grass sprigs over most of the state, which included most of the by-passes including, Hugo OK, Broken Arrow Expressway, Muskogee, Vinita to Durant and Oklahoma City to Guthrie, OK. He did this for 32 years and sold all his grass equipment to a rancher in New Mexico. Jack continued his ranching operation and sold the bulk of his Coastal Bermuda Hay to dairies because of the high protein content. Jack spent his last 25 years still working cattle and baling hay but on a much smaller frame and helped his wife in the Quick Mart Business, Movie Rental Business and helped her run the Office Furniture Business in Paris, TX for 18 years. Jack grew up with Bob Wills music, and he loved western swing, some country, Big Band Music, and loved to dance. He was a member of the Elks lodge in Paris, TX , a member of the Moose Lodge in Oklahoma City and rarely missed a good dance as long as his health allowed. Jack was an avid OU fan and sent his son and both step-daughters to OU. Two of his grandchildren also attended school at OU. Jack was serious about everything he did and worked hard at it.

He was preceded in death by his son, Don Murray, his mother, Alice Murray, and brother, Harold Murray. He was loved by everyone and will be greatly missed.

Jack is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sue Murray of the home; daughter, Sally Tucker and husband Don of Broken Arrow, OK; three grandchildren, Brad Tucker and Julie Tucker both of Broken Arrow, OK and Matthew Murray of Norman, OK; two step-daughters, Kimberly McCall of Broken Arrow, OK and Kendra Staggs of Hugo, OK.
