Funeral services for Martha Elizabeth Edwards will be held on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. in the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richard Tatum officiating and burial following in the Red Hill Cemetery in Powderly, Texas.

Martha passed away in Paris, Texas on October 31, 2009. Martha Elizabeth Edwards was born on February 6th 1925 in Bonham, Texas. She was born into the family of Eugene Walton and Frankie Duritha (Meeks) Thompson. She grew up in Grand Junction, Colorado. She spent the majority of her adult life in Fresno, California, where she raised five children. Martha retired from Cooks Communications as a telephone operator; she wrote a book "The Thirties" which is her autobiography. In 2000 she moved to Paris, Texas, to live with her oldest son, Rev. Burgie Thompson and became a member of the Unity Baptist Church in Hugo, Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Bill Edwards; three brothers: Leonard Thompson, Roy Thompson, Frank Thompson; three sisters: Myrtle Stewart, Zelda Overall, Mary Jane Anderson.

Martha is survived by four sons: Burgie Thompson of Paris, Texas, James Thompson, Joe Nishimoto, Dennis Nishimoto all of Madera, California; one daughter: Linda Torline of Grand Junction, Colorado; one brother: Robert Thompson; five sisters: Doris Mae Covey, Millie Marie Capps, Frances Redd, Dollie Jenkins, Della V. McDuffy; twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
