Memorial services and celebration of Lyle’s life will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2013, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. with funeral services immediately following from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Hugo with Rev. Doug McClure officiating. Friends and family are welcomed to come and go, or stay for the services.
Lyle passed away Saturday, January 19, 2013, in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 87. Lyle Contway was born February 25, 1925, in Wilson, Oklahoma, the son of Floyd L. and Faye (Biffle) Contway. He grew up in Wilson, OK and graduated from Clinton High. School. After graduation he attended OU before moving to California where he lived for over 30 years. Lyle moved to this area in 1984 from San Diego, CA, and married Betty Brackeen in Hugo, OK in 1985. Lyle was always an active entrepreneur both in California and Oklahoma. He did it his way by being a "jack of all trades".¯ He always worked for himself in real estate, selling cars, contractor and developer. Lyle also enjoyed horses, worked with cutting horses and show horses.
He was preceded in death by both parents; his first wife, Lois Contway, and one son, Mark Contway.
Lyle is survived by his wife, Betty Contway of the home; his children, Tony Contway of Enid, OK, J.R. Contway and wife Doris of Ruidoso, NM, Bob Brackeen of Tyler, TX, Kelly Brackeen and friend James Russell of Longview, TX, and Kathy Beard of Paris, TX; brother, Jim Alexander and wife Barbara of Carson City, NV; sister, Mary Lou Eason of Lawton, OK; grandchildren, Tiffany McVickar and husband Rick of San Diego, CA, Cody Contway of CA, Julie Figueroa and husband Chad of Paris, TX, Caity Brackeen and friend Billy of Denton, TX, Rachel Brackeen and friend Brady of Tyler, TX, Ashley Smith and Abby Smith both of Longview, TX; three great grandchildren; special friends, Carl Dollins of Paris, TX and Tom Powell of San Diego, CA; numerous other relatives and friends.
