Funeral services for John Rogers will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Chapel with Rev. Doug McClure officiating and burial following in the Goodland Cemetery. John passed away Sunday, July 31, 2011, in Paris, Texas, at the age of 65.
John Rogers was born April 28, 1946, in Memphis, Tennessee, the son of Joseph Franklin and Lillian (Gray) Rogers. He graduated from Soper High School in 1964, moved to the Blossom/Paris area, and lived there from 1965 to 1981. He started out in 1965 working as a welder for Babcock and Wilcox in Paris, TX. Through the years he worked his way up the ranks to top guy at the job site. He traveled across the U.S. overseeing and helping build coal, gas, and nuclear power plants. John moved back to the Hugo area in 1981 as he continued working and retired after over 40 years with B&W. Even in his retirement, he was still consulting with the company on a part time basis. He was a Master Mason of Lodge # 27 of the Paris Masonic Lodge. John was an avid motorcyclist and enjoyed attending rallies. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Van Wesley Linn and Jerry Linn.
John is survived by one son, John R. Rogers, Jr. and wife Debbie of Edmond, OK; one sister, Kay Tidmore of Hugo, OK; two grandsons, Nick and Josh Rogers of Edmond, OK; special friend, Gina Griffith of Paris, TX.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 2, 2011, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Chapel in Hugo, OK. Family will also receive friends at 707 N. 5th St in Hugo, OK. The family ask that donations be made in John’s memory to the American Cancer Society.
