Funeral services for June Frances Stokes will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. in the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffee Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Hunt presiding. Interment services will follow at the Ft. Towson Cemetery in Ft. Towson, Oklahoma.
June Frances Stokes, of Ft. Towson, OK, died Monday, December 28, 2009 in Stillwater, OK, at the age of 81. June Frances Stokes was born April 17, 1928, in Durant, OK, the daughter of Samuel and Vera (Davidson) Bokies. She grew up near Fort Towson and later attended high school in Norman, Oklahoma.
June married Jesse D. Stokes on August 29, 1947, in Gainesville, TX. She and her husband resided in the Fort Towson area where they owned and operated a dairy farm for several years before moving into town and purchasing the local Texaco Station. Upon retiring from the station, June became an active homemaker and an avid gardener. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, and served on the Fort Towson City Council as both council member and mayor. June was active for many years in organizing the annual Fort Towson Homecoming and enjoyed volunteering at the Fort Towson Museum.
June was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, J.D., and infant daughter, Vera Kay Stokes.
June is survived by her twin brother Joe Bokies, brother Robert Bokies and sister Mary Dean Hall, all of Durant, OK, two sons: Donald Lee Stokes and wife Teresa, of Lake Havasu, AZ, and Ronald D. Stokes and wife Sandy of Stillwater, OK, two daughters: Nikki N. Robertson and husband Brent of Deer Park, TX, and Melinda L. Hostetler and husband Brady, of Billings, OK, twelve grandchildren: Leslie Stokes, Shawn Stokes, Serina Stokes, Aimee Henderson, Amber Campbell, Karli Hostetler, Kellan Hostetler, Shannon Parker, Kelly Stokes, Tom Williams, Tim Williams, John DiBenedetto, and eleven great-grandchildren.
Donations may be made to the OK Medical Research Foundation, the United Methodist Church in Ft. Towson, OK and the Boys Ranch near Paris, TX. The family will receive friends Friday, January 1, 2009 from 6-7 p.m. in the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home.
