Graveside services for Virginia Ruth “Tincy” (McClanahan) Alvey will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Ft. Towson Cemetery with Brother Travis Farmer officiating. Virginia passed away Monday, September 29, 2014 in Hugo, Oklahoma, at the age of 90.
Virginia Ruth “Tincy” (McClanahan) Alvey was born November 3, 1923 in Ft. Towson, Oklahoma, to Felix and Virgie (Lunsford) McClanahan. She married James Melton Alvey in San Francisco, CA in the 1940s. She spent almost 40 years in California after high school, and she served as a “Rosie Riveter” welder, building ships during WWII. She worked in a dry cleaning business with her husband for over 30 years, after which she moved back to her birthplace and opened the Kiamichi Kitchen in downtown Ft. Towson in the 1980s. She retired for the second time from there in 1993. She was preceded in death by her husband: James Alvey; her parents; siblings: Midge Leflore, Pauline Jack-Wood, Tom McClanahan, Coy "Snooks" McClanahan, and others.
“Tincy” is survived by children: Melton Alvey and wife, Desiree, Clay Alvey and wife, Dawn, and Deborah Sue Ensley and husband, Vince, all of Ft. Towson, OK, and Jim Alvey, Jr. of San Francisco CA; grandchildren: Jason Alvey, Megan Blair, Casey Blair, Jessica Alvey-Woods, Johnny Armstrong, Rondi Harris, Jamie Harrington, Keif Alvey, & En Alvey; great-grandkids: Shaun & Austin Webb, Danielle, Megan, & Christopher Woods, and Jordan Harris; great-great grandkids: Elizabeth & Chase Webb and numerous others; grand nieces: Marina Davis & Desiree Reese.
