Helen Lucille Alred was born on Sunday, Sept. 25, 1921, in Okesa, the daughter of Charlie and Abigail (Whitwam) Davis. She graduated from Nelogony High School. On Aug. 31, 1942, she married the love of her life, Luther William Alred Jr. This union was blessed with two children: their son, Gary and their daughter, Terri.
Helen was employed with the Shady Grove School for 32 years as the school cafeteria manager. Helen enjoyed working at the school and all the students and faculty she met. When she wasn't working, Helen enjoyed time fishing and attending basketball games. She was accomplished at knitting and sewing.
You were in for a treat at dinner when Helen made her delicious noodles, dumplings and desserts. The happiest times were spent with her children and grandchildren. Her family was her passion.
Helen possessed a large heart and worked long hours and never complained. She never met a stranger and loved her many friends she made along the way. A Christian by faith, she attended the Victory House of Praise in Hulbert.
The Lord called Helen home on Monday, May 10, 2010, with her family at her side. Helen was 88 years old. She will be missed by the many friends and family she cherished.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Luther in 1969; three sisters, Irma Davis, Theresa Davis, and Mildred Kruczynski; and two brothers, Jack and Don Davis.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Gary Alred and wife Miki of Tahlequah, and Terri Vestal and husband Vince of Shady Grove. Her three grandsons include Jay Alred of Tahlequah, Jim Alred and wife Heather of Stillwater, and Derek Quinton of Shady Grove. Helen's legacy lives on in her seven great-grandchildren and her two nephews, Jim Davis and Donald Davis, as well as many cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
Those wishing to express their sympathy are asked to consider a donation to the Shady Grove School, 11042 W. Shady Grove Road, Hulbert, Okla. 74441.
