TAHLEQUAH — Services for Lucinda Vann-Robbins will be held on Friday, Oct. 26, at 2 p.m., at Reed-Culver Chapel with Pastor Steve Osage of First Indian Baptist Church.
A wake service will be held at Reed-Culver Chapel from 5:30-7:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 25, with Lucinda's family presiding. Interment will take place at Thompson Cemetery.
Lucinda Vann-Robbins was born on May 27, 1919, in South West City, Mo., the daughter of Ross and Laura (Foreman-Thompson) Wilson. She attended school at Oil Springs District 33. She married Mike Vann in April of 1938 in Proctor. Lucinda was blessed with eight children.
She was a gifted woman. She was talented with a needle and sewed beautiful clothing for her children and made quilts. Lucinda was a proud member of the Cherokee Nation and worked tirelessly to keep the ways of her people alive for future generations.
She taught Cherokee history in the oral tradition as well as Sunday School in Cherokee at First Indian Baptist Church of Tahlequah.
She loved to sing the old traditional hymns in Cherokee and could often be heard doing just that.
She worked as a cook at the Shack Café and you could bet you would enjoy your meal more if you followed it with her wonderful peach cobbler.
Her family was everything to her, her love was unconditional and her loyalty fierce. Everything her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren accomplished was a tremendous source of pride for her family. Lucinda's husband Mike passed from this life in 1992.
After her second husband Sam Robbins passed, Lucinda spent the remainder of her time enjoying the company of her family. A devout Christian by faith, the Lord called Lucinda to her heavenly home on Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at home surrounded by those she held most dear. Lucinda was 93 years old.
Lucinda is preceded in death by her mother and father; her stepfather, Ketcher Thompson; first husband Mike Vann; and her second husband, Sam Robbins; son, Rick Vann; brother, J. Berry Thompson; and sister, Ella Mae Whaler.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving sons and daughters, Luella Vann-Thornton and husband Bud of Banning, Calif., Christina Vann-Valliere and husband Jon of Pico Rivera, Calif., Luanna Vann-Taylor and husband Ken of Anaheim, Calif., Gwen Vann-GoingSnake of Tahlequah, Bill Vann and wife Evelyn of Phoenix, Ariz., Thomas Vann of Tahlequah, Cecil James Robbins and wife Rita of Kansas, Okla., and daughter-in-law Cora Vann of Tahlequah. Lucinda's legacy lives on in her 29 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins; a loving friend, Bea Oosahwee; and a host of friends and loved ones.
