TAHLEQUAH – Services for Jewell Dold Vaughn will be held Friday, Aug. 26, 2011, at 2 p.m. in the Hart Funeral Chapel with Brother Don Nichols officiating.
Interment will follow in the Tahlequah City Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home. Public viewing will be Wednesday, Aug. 24, and Thursday Aug. 25, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Please sign our online guestbook at www.hartfuneralhome.net.
Jewell Dold Vaughn, daughter of Jessie and Eva (Langley) Collings was born March 2, 1921, in Catoosa, and departed this life on Aug. 21, in Tahlequah at the age of 90 years, five months and 19 days.
Jewell obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Education from NSU, a Master's Degree in Education from OSU and a Master's Degree in Library Science from OU. She taught at Barber, Briggs, and Sequoyah Elementary for 24 years before becoming the circulation librarian at NSU where she worked for 19 years until her retirement.
She was also very active in the community and a member of several organizations including the Eastern Star, OEA, NEA, and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, to name a few. She was a great cook, and a very special lady to all who knew her but most of all she was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family. Her grandchildren were the love of her life. She was a member of the First Christian Church.
Jewell was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Foss Dold; second husband, Dale Vaughn; and siblings, Mildred Carr, Clara Faye Howell, Jean Jacobs, Hartie Mae Knight, Denzel Collings and Donald Collings.
She is survived by a very loving family that includes her daughter, Ann Hembree and husband Larry of Tahlequah; brother, Darrel Collings and wife Loma of Tulsa; grandchildren, Tracy Adams, Foix Stauss III and wife Shanna, Andi Hembree, Chris Hembree, Casey Hembree; five great grandchildren, Lauren Adams, Bo Adams, Megan Adams, Dylan Adams and Alice Jewell Stauss; one great-great-granddaughter, Averi Sherrell; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends also survive her.
The family would like to thank the staff of Go Ye Village for the great care and love they showed to Jewell during the last five years.
