TAHLEQUAH — Walter Tinsley passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2011, in Collinsville. He was 88 years old. Walter was born March 20, 1923, in Amber, to Walter Phillip and Amanda (Walker) Tinsley.
On March 19, 1944, he married the love of his life, Ruth Headrick, while they were both employed at Tinker Field during WWII. This union was blessed with one daughter and four sons, Lynda, Kenneth, Dennis, David, and Jeffrey. Walter worked as an accountant for many different dealerships. He worked for Ray Huddard Ford and Howe Chevrolet in El Reno.
He also worked for Griesel Ford and Carter Chevrolet in Okarche. Walter loved his family dearly and will be missed by all.
Walter is survived by five children, Lynda Tibbett-Corry of Baton Rouge, La., Kenneth Tinsley and wife Anita of Tulsa, Dennis Tinsley of Welling, David Tinsley and wife Penny of El Reno, and Jeffrey Tinsley and wife Peggy of Tulsa; two sisters, Lela Ellis of Bartlesville and Cleta Mitchell of Del City; 17 grandchildren, Rita Jordan, Amanda Bourgoyne, Edrienne Youngblood, and Brenner Corry all of Baton Rouge, La., Walter Corry, Troy Tinsley, and Chad Tinsley all of Keys, Keenan Tinsley of Memphis, Tenn., Kirstein Haydon and Neleigh Haydon both of El Reno, Ryan Tinsley of Dallas, Texas, Kristin James of Claremore, and William Tibbett, Gary Noble, Erika Maxey, C.J. Wiseley, and Lacie Wiseley of Tulsa; 25 great-grandchildren; special niece Carolyn Billings-Pratt and nephew Bob Tinsley; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He is welcomed home by his wife Ruth, his parents; a daughter-in-law, Carol Ashley Tinsley; two sons-in-law, Edward Corry and Ralph Tibbett; one brother, Paul Tinsley and wife Opal; two brothers-in-law, Arthur Mitchell and Clyde Ellis; nephews, Chuck Tinsley and Mike Mitchell; and nieces, Tinya Billings-Cobb and Kathy Mitchell.
Visitation for Walter will be held Sunday, June 19, from 1:30- 6 p.m. at Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be held 2:30 p.m., Monday, June 20, at the Tahlequah City Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home, www.collins villefh.com.
