Funeral services for Shirley Ann Pinson-Smith, age 61, will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at 2:00 PM at the Cornerstone Fellowship Church in Tahlequah, OK with Reverend Tommy Pitts and Pastor Alan Nolan officiating. Interment will follow at Tahlequah City Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Hart Funeral Home of Tahlequah.Pallbearers for Shirley include Jim Pitts, Lonnie Pitts, Bill Pitts, Raymond Pitts Joe Coble, and Mike Matthews. Honorary Pallbearers are Leroy Pitts, Tom Tucker, Bill Rhoads, Harold Mace, Clifford Vailing, James V. Rogers and Dr. James Brixey.Shirley Ann (Pinson) Smith, the daughter of Robert Lee and Mary Lorene (Edwards) Pitts was born June 10th, 1947 in Briartown, OK and was promoted to Heaven on Saturday, October 18, 2008 in Tulsa, OK.Shirley grew up in the Porum, OK area and graduated from Porum High School in 1965. She married Sam Pinson in 1966 and to this union one daughter was born, Shannon Renae Pinson. They resided in Tahlequah for the 27 years they were married where Shirley attended Northeastern State University and graduated with a Master’s degree in counseling. She later became the Director of the New Student Advisement Center until she married Steve Smith on August 30, 1995 in Houston, TX. Steve and Shirley moved to Washington, D.C., a place she loved dearly. They retired to Tahlequah in 2001.Shirley attended Cornerstone Fellowship Church in Tahlequah. She spent many volunteer hours with non-profit organizations in the community and loved her Bible study group and friends. Because Shirley was a vigilant prayer warrior and fervently served her Lord everyday, she encouraged countless people and blessed lives.Shirley is preceded in death by her parents and five brothers, Carl Pitts, Kenneth Pitts, Bob Pitts, Ernest Pitts, and Jerry Pitts.She is survived by her husband Steve Smith and her daughter Shannon Pinson both of Tahlequah, OK, six brothers, Leroy and wife Leila Pitts of Porum, , Raymond and wife Julie Pitts of Parker, CO, Bill and wife Reitha Pitts of Hulbert, OK, Jim Pitts of Stigler, OK, Lonnie Pitts of Big Springs, TX, and Tommy and wife Lorenda of Fairview, OK; three sisters, Maxine Bush of Mannford, OK, Linda and husband Joe Coble of Jay, OK, Brenda Parker of Louisville, KY; two step-children, Kevin and Kim Smith of Tulsa, OK, and Karmen Smith –Green of Tahlequah, OK; two grandchildren Kerri Smith and Cooper Green and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.Those wishing to send an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Cancer Treatment Center of America, 10109 East 79th Street, Tulsa, OK 74133.
