JoAnne Marshall Pippin

©2024 Stilwell Democrat Journal

Submitted by: Jan Grooms

JoAnne Marshall Pippin was born Tuesday, July 27, 1943 in Miami, Oklahoma. She was the first of three girls born to Grant and Irene (Schiefelbein) Marshall. She grew up and attended school in Cherokee County, Oklahoma.

She met and later married Willis Logan Pippin on July 19, 1962 in Stilwell, Oklahoma. To this union, two daughters were born Christinia Lynn and Dusty JoLynn.

JoAnne was called home Tuesday, October 31, 2017 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma at the age of 74 years, 3 months and 3 days.

JoAnne earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education and Reading Certificate from Northeastern State University. She began her teaching career in Grants, New Mexico, moving then to Lowery City, Missouri. Finally settling in Cherokee County, she taught at Keys School and then at Bill Willis Skill Center where she retired in May 1996.

She enjoyed the role of wife and mother, and was thrilled to become “Nana Jo” to Jake, Chandler and Carter. She invested many hours with her grandkids going to plays, recitals, cross country, soccer, gymnastics, and anything else in which they were interested. No doubt, her favorite time was spent with her family gathered at her home for birthdays, holidays or as often as they could.

JoAnne was a willing worker for all of her family and her church family at Carter Baptist. Anyone who knew JoAnne would testify that she had a servant's spirit. Willing, ready and able was her attitude. She enjoyed sewing, cake decorating, arranging flowers, traveling, reading, Sudoku and other games.

JoAnne was preceded in death by her parents, Grant & Irene Marshall, her husband Willis Pippin, brothers-in-law Fred Ritchie, Calvin Teague, Bill Pippin, and Ralph Pippin, and niece Nancy Fields.

She is survived by a loving and dedicated family,  which include: Daughters Christinia Hurst and husband Kevin of Jenks, OK and Dusty Miggletto and husband Shelldon of Stilwell, OK. Three grandchildren: Jake Miggletto, Chandler Hurst and Carter Miggletto. Two sisters: Joyce Ritchie of Keys, OK and Donna Wageman and husband Marvin of McAlester, OK; Two sisters-in-law: Frances Teague of Fayetteville, AR and Susan Pippin of Keys, OK. JoAnne is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to name.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 3, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Hart Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Mat Lawrence officiating. Interment will follow in the Tahlequah City Cemetery under the care and direction of Hart Funeral Home.
