Robert P. “Bob” Medearis died June 22, 2011 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa after a brief illness. A private family service is planned.
Bob was born in Tahlequah August 17, 1930. He was delivered by his father, Dr. P.H. Medearis, who delivered more than 3,000 babies in the Tahlequah area. He graduated from Bagley High School in 1948, and received a degree from Northeastern State College in 1952. He entered the United States Air Force in 1952, and served in the Pacific Theater for 4 years during the Korean War.
In addition to being a local businessman, Bob served 8 years in the Oklahoma State Senate from 1968 until 1976, and served 4 years in the Oklahoma House of Representatives from 1986 until 1990.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. P.H. and Carolyn Medearis, and by one sister, Lillian Medearis. He is survived by his wife Martha of the home; one sister, Sue Wyly; his children Suzanne Hathaway and husband Bob, Park Medearis and wife Sandy, John Medearis, and Frank Medearis and partner Joel Cousins. He is also survived by his grandchildren; LeAnn Davis, Robert P. Medearis III, Carly Cockman, Jack Medearis, Jacob Medearis, Jarod Medearis, William Medearis and James Medearis.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish to make expressions of sympathy may contribute to Help in Crisis of Tahlequah or to a favorite charity.
