TAHLEQUAH -- Funeral services for Loyd H. Mayberry, age 79, will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at the Hart Funeral Home Chapel. Chaplain Kevin Webster of Carter Hospice will preside. Interment will follow at the Tahlequah City Cemetery. Funeral services have been entrusted to the care of the Hart Funeral Home of Tahlequah.

Loyd H. Mayberry was born June 28, 1930, in Enid to Harold Fred Mayberry and Olive Ruth (Clark) Mayberry. He was married to Carol Sue Thompson on Nov. 5, 1949, in Tahlequah.

Loyd entered the U.S. Air Force in April 1948. He served in the aircraft maintenance career field and was stationed in Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Florida, Japan, Thailand, and Italy. While stationed at Perrin Air Force Base in Sherman, Texas, he served with the Funeral Honor Guard. Loyd retired from the U.S.A.F. in November of 1970 in the rank of master sergeant.

In December 1970, Loyd and Carol moved to Tahlequah. Loyd was employed at the NSU Bookstore for three years. In July 1974, he founded the Tahlequah Truss Co. and operated it until retiring in July of 1995.

Loyd was a 32nd-degree Mason, a Shriner, a lifetime member of the Non-Commissioned Officers Association, a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion.

Loyd Mayberry departed this life on Friday, May 7, 2010, in Tahlequah, at the age of 79 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother, Boyd Mayberry; brother Raymond Mayberry; and by one sister, Evelyn Rouse.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Sue Mayberry, of the home; two sons, Thomas Loyd Mayberry and wife Sally of Larkspur, Colo., and Gary Wayne Mayberry and wife Linda of Tahlequah; one brother, Howard Lee Mayberry of Canadian; two grandchildren, Shawna Spencer of Tahlequah and Gerrod Mayberry and wife Erica of Tahlequah; four great-grandchildren, Lindsey Spencer, Austin Spencer, Kaydence Mayberry and Trenton Mayberry; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
