TAHLEQUAH – A funeral for Verna Loewen Fast, age 91, was held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, at the Hart Funeral Home Chapel, with Chaplain Paul Tavener, of Go Ye Village, officiating. Interment followed services at Tahlequah City Cemetery. Services were entrusted to the Hart Funeral Home of Tahlequah. The family held a formal visitation at Hart Funeral Home from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 16.

Joey Fast, Jonathan Fast, Justin Fast, Jean Lopez, Chad Kirkhart, Mark Loewen and Ron Klassen served as pallbearers, while Elmer Koehn, Jim Richardson, Wilbert Unruh, Ron Lobaugh, Ron Goossen, Laverne Steiner and Gaylord Smith served as honorary pallbearers.Verna Loewen Fast was born in Mt. Lake, Minnesota, on Dec. 31, 1916, the daughter of John Loewen and Elizabeth (Dick) Loewen. She was the oldest of six children. Verna lived on the family farm outside Mt. Lake until adulthood. On April 23, 1940, she married Arthur A. Fast, at the family home. Their marriage was blessed with five children. They attended Grace Bible Institute, in Omaha, Neb. They spent twelve years in Mississippi before settling permanently in Tahlequah, in 1964, where they lived and worked at Camp Look-Away and Go Ye Village. Verna continued to live at Go Ye Village after Art passed away in 1985. She enjoyed cooking and liked to try new recipes on family and friends. Verna was a faithful member of Tahlequah Bible Church. She never hesitated to volunteer to help with church activities. Throughout her life, she sought to follow the example laid out in Proverbs 31.

Verna Fast passed away on Thursday, Nov. 13 at the age of 91. She leaves earth to join many loved ones in heaven, including her parents; her husband, Art; her son, John Arthur; and her sisters, Arlene Loewen, Evelyn Klassen and Elsie Klassen.Her survivors include her children, James and Debbie Fast, of Ft. Gibson, Joanne Fast of Omaha, Neb., Janette and Byron Harms, of Stillwater, Joel and Jeannette Ramos Fast, of Claremore, and daughter-in-law, Janice Fast Drehobl; and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Dorothy Loewen of Windom, Minn., and brother and sister-in-law, Ervin and Frances Loewen, of Mountain Lake, Minn., Art's brothers and sisters and their spouses, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, dear friends and loved ones.The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Go Ye Village and Carter Hospice for their loving care of our mother.
