TAHLEQUAH — Services for Paul William Cook, 71, of Tahlequah, will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, June 27, 2011, at the First Baptist Church of Tahlequah, with Rev. Ron Rice and Dr. Derrick Lynch officiating.
Serving as pallbearers are Ralph Lynch, Boyd Hogner, Don Staiger, Bill Rhodes, Kerry Hokit, and Joe Butts.
Honorary pallbearers are the deacons and men's class of Southside Baptist Church, Heath Head, John Presley, Jack Presley, Earl Presley, Rex Presley, Mac Cook, Robert Cook, Mark Cook, Allen Cook, Matt Cook, Bill Smith, Bob Vermillion, L.W. Smith, Bob Stiles, Brodie Jones, John Juilfs, Bill Dudley, Bobby Scarsdale, Chris Presley, and Shawn Presley.
Interment will follow in the Tahlequah City Cemetery under the care of Green Country Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at tahlequahfuneral.com
Paul was born in Broken Arrow, on Nov. 21, 1939, the son of Clarence and Josephine (Sellers) Cook. He departed this life on June 22, 2011, in Houston.
At the age of 12, Paul's family moved to the Eldon Community of Cherokee County. Paul attended Tahlequah Junior High so he could participate in the band.
He was a 1957 graduate of Tahlequah High School before enrolling at Northeastern, where he earned his bachelor of science degree in education.
Following graduation, Paul began work at Liberty State Bank.
He married Pat Presley on Dec. 18, 1962.
In 1970, he opened the Cook Insurance Agency. Later he also began Economy Auto Rental and Tulsa Area Insurance Agency.
A longtime member of Southside Baptist Church, Paul has served as music director, Sunday school teacher, and deacon, and was currently serving as chairman of deacons.
He was also a member of the Tahlequah Lions Club, and has served on the Tahlequah School Board.
Welcoming him home are his parents, and a brother, Roy Cook.
Paul is survived by his wife, Pat, of the home; daughters, Terri Ingle and husband, Clark, of Grove, and Tammi Haas and husband, Bryan, of Mustang; grandchildren Sarah and Jacob Ingle, and Emily and William Haas; brothers, Mac Cook, and Robert Cook and wife, Carol; as well a many other relatives, friends, and loved ones.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to M.D. Anderson Lymphoma Department, Southside Baptist Church Building Fund, or the Loma Linda Proton Therapy Center in his name.
