TAHLEQUAH -- Leon Perry Carlile, of Park Hill, was born Thursday, March 30, 1922, in Standing Rock, to Willie Andrew and Alma Eliza Luna Carlile, and died Friday, May 14, 2010, in Tahlequah, at the age of 88 years, one month and 14 days.
Mr. Carlile worked for Cherokee County, District No. 3 for many years. He served on many boards, and was instrumental in establishing several county programs. He enjoyed reading, traveling, bluegrass music and spending time with his family. He was baptized into the Lutheran Church on April 12, 1936.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jewell Leep; and a grandson, Billy Joe Lucas, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jessie G. (McDonald) Carlile of the home; children, Leon W. (Bill) Carlile, and his wife Mary, of Park Hill, Sandra Farmer, and her husband Sam, of Coweta, Donna McNabb of Tahlequah, Russell Carlile, and his wife June, of Tahlequah and Karen Howe, and her husband Gary, of Park Hill; grandchildren, Sam Farmer II, and his wife Alisa, of Killen, Texas, Sheri Cook, and her husband Jarrett, of Oklahoma City, Steve Farmer, and his wife Amy, of Monroe, La., Dr. Shelley Hogue, and her husband Kevin, of Waterloo, Iowa, Scott Farmer, and his wife Emily, of Sallisaw, Cara Carroll, and her husband Todd, of Tulsa, Aaron Lucas, and his wife Megan, of Tahlequah, Kyle Fisher of Tahlequah and Kurt Fisher of Tahlequah; great-grandchildren, Kate and Olivia Farmer of Killen, Texas, Kenneth and Libby Cook of Oklahoma City, Rebekah and Luke Farmer of Monroe, La., Kalley, Samuel and Benjamin Hogue of Waterloo, Iowa, Kaycie and David Farmer of Sallisaw, and Andrew Lambert and Gracie Carroll of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and sister, Bernice Rader of Tulsa.
Services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at the Reed-Culver Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Clayton Sellers officiating. Burial will be in the Tahlequah City Cemetery with Leon's grandsons, Sam Farmer II, Steve Farmer, Scott Farmer, Aaron Lucas, Kyle Fisher and Kurt Fisher serving as pallbearers.
Viewing will be Tuesday, May 18, 2010, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., at Reed-Culver Funeral Home.
