Funeral services for Gary Brown, 64, of Tahlequah will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, in the Green Country Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Jay Jones.

Serving as pall bearers are Gabe Renfro, Travis Lyle, Jesse Blair. Honorary pall bearers will James Stanfield, Foix Stauss III, Dick Casey and Roy Miller.

Interment will follow in the Tahlequah City Cemetery, under the care of Green Country Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at http://www.tahlequahfuneral.com/.

Gary was born Oct. 3, 1946 in Westfield, Ill., the son of Fred and Valderee Uberl (Brown) Brown. He died on Nov. 20, 2010 in Tahlequah.

Gary grew up in Nowata where he played basketball and football. After graduating from Nowata High School he entered the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged before moving to Tahlequah where he found employment with the Hinds while attending NSU.

Following college, he worked with Maurice Box before embarking in the grocery business, owning his own stores in several towns. He then established the Butcher Block in Tahlequah, which grew into the Town Branch Eatery. Gary was a 32nd Degree Mason. Some of his hobbies were fishing, golfing, and hunting trips to Montana.

Preceding Gary in death are his parents and a brother, Ben.

Surviving Gary are his children, Daree New of Tahlequah and Bravis Brown and his wife Jacqueline of Roanoke, Texas; grandchildren Dillyn Ione New, and Dilayni Grace New; brothers and sisters Cleve Brown and wife Ruth, Bill Brown and wife Jackie, Beverly Miller, and Fred Brown; brothers-in-law Foix Stauss II and Ben Stauss and wife Sharon.
