TAHLEQUAH — TAHLEQUAH – John Miller Beverage, son of Albert L. and Julia P. (Miller) Beverage, was born March 29, 1927, in Owl's Head, Maine, and departed this life on July 21, 2011. He grew up on the island of North Haven, where he also received his elementary and high school education.
Mr. Beverage graduated from Gordon College in Boston in 1949 and from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1953. Following graduation, he was appointed by the Central American Mission (now CAM International) and served as a missionary in Guatemala, along with his wife Janet, until 1972. From 1972 until retirement in 1992, he was on the staff of Dallas Seminary, seven years as director of admissions and 12 years as public services librarian. Mr. Beverage was awarded the Master of Library Science degree from North Texas State University in 1983.
On May 25, 1957, he was united in marriage to Janet Kihlgren at Long Hill Chapel in Chatham, New Jersey. They were active members of the Reinhardt Bible Church in Dallas, where Mr. Beverage served on the Board of Elders, directed the church library, sang in the choir, and taught in the adult Sunday school department. In February of 1994 they moved to Go Ye Village in Tahlequah.
He is survived by his wife Janet; three children, David, Susan and Peter; daughters-in-law, Tricia and Denise; son-in-law, Brad; and five grandchildren, Jett, Beau, Michael, Jonathan and Joshua.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 25, 2011, at the Go Ye Village Chapel. Burial will be in the Tahlequah City Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home.
