Duane M. Arnold, Tahlequah resident, died Sunday March 10, 2013 in Tahlequah. He was 78 years of age.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday March 14, 2013 in the Tahlequah City Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home. Viewing will be on Wednesday March 13, 2013 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Hart Funeral Home.

Duane was born December 20, 1934 in Dighton, KS the son of Ralph and Mable (Spier) Arnold. He was a graduate of the Rozel, KS High School. He attended college in Garden City, KS before enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1952. He graduated from Officers Candidate School in Ft. Benning, GA and served in the Big Red One, 1st Infantry Division in Ft. Riley, KS. He was stationed in Trieste, Italy, Germany, Korea, The Philippines, and Viet Nam. He served as an advisor to the Philippine Army. Duane served two tours in Viet Nam, commanding an infantry company and serving as an advisor to the South Vietnamese Army.

At the time of his retirement in 1975 at the rank of Major he was stationed in Ft. Riley, KS where he worked with the Intelligence Division and reviewed National Guard troops. Following his retirement he owned an oil tank fiber glassing co. He also worked as a builder and an accomplished finish carpenter. The couple moved to Tahlequah in 2002.

Survivors include his wife Marguerite, of the home; two step-children, Ruth Ellis and Miles Taylor; five grandchildren, Jenny Marie, Elizabeth, Ben, Adrian and Raymond; one great great grandson, Cameron; one niece, Marca Lee; four nephews, Terry Kershner, Curt Kershner Neil Koopman and John Koopman; and one brother-in-law, Bob Underhill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Leora and Fyrma and one brother, Orlo
