Ruby Eveleen (Holman) Doyle

Ruby Eveleen (Holman) Doyle
September 10, 1931 ~ November 4, 2025

Ruby Eveleen Doyle was born on September 10, 1931, in Locust Grove, OK, the daughter of Richard Earl & Lula May (Bailey) Holman. She passed from this life on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, in Tahlequah, OK, at the age of 94 years, 1 month, & 25 days.

Ruby spent most of her life in the Locust Grove & Peggs communities. During her childhood, her family lived for a short time on Fourteen Mile Creek, where she enjoyed fishing & hunting snakes. Ruby took every fish home that she caught, & would clean & cook her catch. She graduated from Locust Grove High School with the Class of 1951. On March 5, 1955, Ruby was united in marriage to Elmer Wesley Doyle in Locust Grove, OK. They shared over 52 years together before his passing on September 22, 2007.

Ruby was a hard worker and had a heart for service. She worked as a bus driver for Peggs School from 1980 through 1993 & spent many years sewing & mending clothes for others in the community. She lovingly made her daughter’s wedding dresses, the bridal party & the flower girls & her own mother of the bride dresses. She also made Ashley’s clothing while she was growing up. Ruby also enjoyed quilting & crocheting doilies, creating heirlooms that will be cherished for generations.

A faithful member of the Peggs Community Church, Ruby could always be found helping with Vacation Bible School, making sure every child had a snack & a smile. She was also an active member of the Lady Samaritans at Peggs Community Church, where she found joy & fellowship quilting alongside dear friends.

Ruby loved to read mysteries & was a member of a book club. She was known for her exceptional baking—especially her famous apple pies, which she faithfully made each year for Bro. Rex—as well as her fudge, forget-me-biscuits, & jumbo raisin nut cookies. She enjoyed gardening, raising both flowers & vegetables, & took pride in caring for her chickens. Above all, Ruby adored her grandchildren & great-grandbabies, cherishing every moment she spent with her family. After the great-grandbabies came along, Ruby’s grandkids took a back seat to the new additions. She enjoyed attending all their sporting events—whether it was baseball, basketball, football, soccer, or lacrosse—& was especially proud to make it to her first lacrosse game this year. She was known for her strong will, quick wit, & sharp memory—she was as tough as she was loving, & she remembered everything right up to the end.

Ruby is survived by: 2 daughters: Sharon Wall of Locust Grove, OK, & Cheryl Lewis & husband John of Peggs, OK; 3 grandchildren: Jason Wall of Claremore, OK, Carey Lewis & Shelby of Bartlesville, OK, & Ashley Lewis of Chouteau, OK; 4 great grandchildren: Parker Wall, Ryker Wall, Dason Lewis, & Kade Lewis; Her travel buddy and partner in crime: Joyce Bailey of Peggs, OK; Her longtime childhood friend: Sue Robertson of Locust Grove, OK; As well as numerous other relatives & a host of friends.

Ruby was preceded in death by: her parents: Richard & Lula May Holman; her husband: Wesley; 2 brothers: Charlie Holman & Richard “Jerry” Holman; 1 sister: Marie Coverdell; & 1 son-in-law: Larry Wall.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 10, 2025, at the Peggs Community Church with Pastors Rex Hendrickson and Mike Parrish officiating. Interment will follow at Peggs Cemetery in Peggs, Oklahoma.
