Services for Kristen Joy Kirk are Wednesday, June 13, at 10 a.m., at Green Country Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Park Hill Cemetery under the care of Green Country Funeral Home.

Kristen Joy (Peters) was born on July 31, 1962, in Fort Smith, Ark., to Dorothy L. Peters and Ray M. Peters. She passed on June 8, 2012, at the age of 49. She was married to Scott Alan Kirk on May 20, 1990, at his grandmother's home at Stone Chapel, which has become their home.

She was a 1980 graduate of Hulbert High School and attended Northeastern State University. Kristen was employed at Reasor's Corp. for over 20 years. While working full-time, she continued her education at Connors State College, and received her associate's degree in nursing in 2004. She worked as a registered nurse at Hillcrest in Tulsa, Tahlequah City Hospital, and the Veterans Administration Hospital in Muskogee, where she was presently employed. She died in a car accident while traveling in her duties as a home health nurse on Friday, June 8, 2012.

She is survived by her best friend and husband, Scott Kirk of the home; daughter, Amber Joy Walls and husband, Christopher of Park Hill; son, Wesley Scott Kirk and wife Gina of Tahlequah; and step-son, Jessie Wayne Kirk of Tahlequah. She is also survived by her mother, Dorothy Peters of Tahlequah; and her father, Ray Peters and wife Carolyn of Vian; sister, Laura Watts and husband Larry of Tahlequah; brothers Mark Peters and wife Marybeth Flusche of Muskogee, and Michael Peters and wife Michella of Tahlequah. Also surviving are her mother-in-law, Mary Lemings and husband Tony of Claremore; father-in-law, Jessie Anno and wife Deanna of Tahlequah; and Holly Wright of Tahlequah.

“Grammie” leaves behind her most cherished grandchildren, Ellie Joy Walls, Preslie Ann Walls, Conner Eugene Kirk, Zoey Joy Kirk, Cadence Lynn Kirk and Hunter Alan Kirk. Her greatest joy was playing and having adventures with her grandchildren.

Also mourning her loss are many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Kristen loved being a nurse. She enjoyed camping and traveling with Scott, and taking care of their “dream home,” which she and Scott built themselves for their family. She was a member of Canterbury Chapel United Methodist Church in Vian.

Services will be officiated by Rev. Mary Whittaker, Pastor of Canterbury Chapel on Wednesday, June 13, at Green Country Funeral Home, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in the Park Hill Cemetery under the care of Green Country Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Eli Peters, Kyle Hix, Cole Hix, Martin Walls, Kenneth Kirk and Vernon Martin.
