Graveside services will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2005, at 1:00 p.m., at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Hila Ray Powell, 92, died peacefully at home in Bakersfield on February 7, 2005. His loving wife of 62 years, Gladys, was at his bedside. Ray was born on May 11, 1912, in Peggs, OK to parents William Austin and Dona Powell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and 5 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife, Gladys May Powell; son, Charles Powell and daughter-in-law, Heli, of Bakersfield; granddaughter, Amy Smith and her husband, Zane of Bakersfield; along with great-grandchildren, Christopher and Charlotte Smith; grandson, Matthew and his wife, Heather of Cedar Park, TX; sister, Betty Burton of Tulsa, OK; brother-in-law, Gerald Cypert and his wife, Vera of Hanford, CA; sister-in-law, Kathleen Wilde and her husband, Ray of Grass Valley, CA and sister-in-law, Alice Rogers of Cypress, CA.

Ray and Gladys were married in 1942, just prior to Rays WWII service with the Navy Seabees. After the war they moved to California, where Ray was a carpenter until retiring in 1971. After living for many years in Anaheim, they relocated to Grass Valley where they lived for 20 years. They moved to Bakersfield to be closer to their son and family in 1999.

Ray was a faithful and loving life partner to his wife, and wonderful father, grandfather, and great-grandfather to his son and his family. He will be missed and loved, always.
