A memorial service for Lois Folk, 93, of Tahlequah, formerly of Berwick, Pa., will be held on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at 1 p.m., at First Baptist Church of Hulbert, with Rev. Glen Rowan officiating. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery Walnut Street, Berwick, Pa. Arrangements have been placed in the care of Green Country Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at tahlequah funeral.com.
Lois was born Aug. 7, 1918, in Philadelphia, New York, to Rev. John and Melvina (Warren) Whitney. She went to be with the Lord on July 17, 2012, in Tahlequah.
She attended Asbury College in Kentucky, and was a graduate of National Bible Institute in New York. Following graduation, she was employed performing clerical work at a hospital.She married Sheldon Folk on Feb. 15, 1950, in Sayre, Pa. Sheldon was on his first furlough, after completing five years on the mission field in Kenya, East Africa. Lois served with her husband 35 years with Africa Inland Mission in Kenya. They worked primarily among the Akamba tribe in a church planting and Bible institute ministry. They were also one of the first missionary couples to reach out to the nomadic Orma tribe with the gospel.
Lois has been preceded in death by her husband, Sheldon Folk; parents, John and Melvina Whitney; her sister, Esther Crist; and grandson, Sheldon Jodry.
Lois is survived by her children, Karen and Curtis Jodry, of Roslyn, Pa., Carol and Merle Ediger, of Tahlequah, and Donald Folk, of Shepherds Home in Union Grove, Wisc.; brothers, Reverend Gordon Whitney and Dr. Leslie Whitney; sister, Virginia Buchmann; grandchildren, Lois Miller, Daniel Jodry, Laura Jodry, Andrew Jodry, Katelin Jodry, Melanie Bickett, Chris Ediger, Laurel Evans, Brandon Ediger, and Cherée Ediger; great-grandchildren, Samantha Miller, Rose Miller, Jessica Miller, Pauline Jodry, Julianne Jodry, Jade Jodry, Declan Ediger, and Laney Evans; and two pending births of great-grandchildren.
Lois' passion for life, compassion for people and unwavering confidence in the love, faithfulness and sovereignty of God were very evident in every aspect of her life.
Her ultimate desire was that, in living her life, she would continually bring glory to her precious saviour.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to Shepherds Ministries, 1805 15th Ave., Union Grove, Wisc., 53182. Designate gifts toward the care of Lois's son, Donald Folk.
