TAHLEQUAH - Services for Rev. Charley Carey, 89, of Hulbert, will be 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19 in the Green Country Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Jimmy Carey. Serving as pallbearers are Charles Carey, Titus Carey, Jay Harris, Darryl Ousley, Todd Downing and Roy Carey. Honorary pallbearers will be David Warden, Robert Karr, Johnny Ray Crittenden and George Roach. Interment will follow in the Cochran cemetery under the care of Green Country Funeral Home.Rev.

Charley Carey was born August 15, 1919, in Hulbert, to Silas and Annie (Cochran) Carey. He passed from this world to be with the Lord and reunite with Ramona, his wife of 58 years, on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008. He attended Chilocco Indian School. Rev Carey retained his humor through his final day.In 1961, at the age of 41, Charlie Carey was ordained at the New Hope Baptist Church, in Hulbert. All the churches he pastored were Indian Baptist churches including Cedar Grove Church, Oak Grove, Sycamore and Mt. Zion, among many others. His final church was New Hope, in Hulbert. He then attended Steely Springs until his passing.

He wed many couples. The first and last couples he married are still together today. He enjoyed hunting and fishing until his health would no longer allow him to.A proud veteran of W.W. II, he hung his United States flag each morning and took it down each dusk. Charley had earned a Combat Infantry Badge.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Ramona.Surviving him are his ten children: Pat Karr and husband, Robert, of Hulbert, Ruth Reddin and husband, Charley, Leflore, Roberta Carey, of Tahlequah, Harold “Doc” Carey and wife, Lavonna, of Tahlequah, Dennis Carey, of Tahlequah, Elizabeth Poteete and husband, Troy, of Webbers Falls, Monroe Carey and wife, Karen, of Wagoner, Zella Coldwell and husband, Allen, of Eldon, Lesa Carey, of Park Hill, Deidra Dobson and husband, Doug, of Hulbert, and Rodney Carey (grandson), of Tahlequah, who was raised as a son; twenty-seven grandchildren, thirty-nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and other relatives, friends, and loved ones too numerous to mention.
