TAHLEQUAH -- Services for Vernon "Bill" Ray Moore, 84, of the Briggs Community will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, June 4, 2010, in the Green Country Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will follow at Crittenden Cemetery.
A celebration of life will be held at the home of Joe and Debbie Duncan following the services.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, June 3 at the Green Country Funeral Home between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m.
Vernon Ray Moore was born in Putnam, Texas on Sept. 7, 1925, the son of Audrey Herbert and Emma May (Stevens) Moore.
He married Edith Irene Mahaney on Dec. 23, 1944, in Park Hill.
In 1960, they made their home in the Briggs area where they raised their six children.
Vernon made his living as a brick mason and was renowned for his professional quality and workmanship throughout the Tahlequah area. He served for many years on the Briggs Board of Education. He attended Bagley High School.
Family was of utmost importance in Vernon's life. He loved to hunt and fish as he traveled the great states of Oklahoma and Texas. Back in the day, he enjoyed talking on his CB and answered to the handle "Red Boat."
Vernon left this life on Sunday, May 30, 2010, at Tahlequah City Hospital with his family at his side after reaching the age of 84 years, 8 months and 23 days.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, his parents, one brother, two sisters and a son-in-law, Bill Sunday.
Survivors include three sons; Vernon Dale Moore of the home, Carl Moore and wife Janora of Moore, and Billy Moore and wife Esther of Welling; three daughters, Dianna Sunday and companion Ted French of Briggs, Dorothy Villines and husband Blaine of Hulbert, and Debbie Duncan and husband Joe of Tahlequah. Others left to cherish his memory are 24 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, as well as many friends and loved ones.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. They include: Keith Carloss, Chris Kile, Kelly Kile, John Duncan, Jason Duncan, Jake Duncan, Tony Hall and Trae Webb.
