Submitted by: Jo Aguirre

TAHLEQUAH — Services for Carolyn Anita Sanders will be held on Friday, July 8, at 1:30 p.m. at Reed-Culver Funeral Chapel with Rev. Charles Duvall officiating. Interment will follow at Caney Cemetery. Services have been entrusted to Reed-Culver Funeral Home of Tahlequah.

Carolyn Anita Sanders was born on May 6, 1948, in Tahlequah. She is the daughter of Dennis Willard and Pauline Marie (Turner) Sanders. Her parents served as teachers and administrators at Laverne, Willard and Rocky Mountain School near Stilwell.

Carolyn graduated from Stilwell High School. She then began her career at Northeastern State University, majoring in elementary education. It was at this time her health began to fail. Carolyn stayed with her parents, assisting them with their many projects. When her mother began teaching at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, Ark., Carolyn continued her piano lessons, a passion that lasted all of her adult life.

Eventually, Carolyn played piano at the church. She was baptized in 1986, and became an active member of Caney General Baptist Church in Welling. Whenever she was not at the piano, you could find Carolyn on the phone calling her many family and friends to check on the latest events of their day.

The Lord called Carolyn to her eternal home on Sunday, July 3, 2011, in Tahlequah. She was 63 years old. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

She is preceded in death by her dad Dennis Sanders Sr., her niece Sonja Fite, and her sister in-law Tonya Sanders.

Those left to cherish her memory include her mother, Dr. Pauline Sanders of Tahlequah. She also leaves a sister, Charlotte Yvonne Fite and her husband, Dr. James Fite of Springfield, Mo. Her brother is Dennis W. Sanders Jr. of Welling. Her nieces and nephew include Tracy Fite, M.D., and husband Keith Karmel, Latishia Jones, Denise Brackett, Lacey Sanders, and Dennis W. Sanders III.

She leaves three great-nieces and nephews, Jackson Fite Karmel, Scarlett Savannah Fite-Karmel, and Austin Kane Fite Karmel. Her loving aunts and uncles include Lester and Viola Turner family, Louella Johnson family, Vonnie Turner family, Carl Turner family, aunt Lorene and Preston Turner, and as well as many cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.

A very special thank you is sent to the staff of Grace Living Center and Rivercross Hospice for all the tender loving care given to Carolyn and her family.
