Services for Charley William Swimmer will be Friday, May 4, at 11 a.m., at the Living Hope Baptist Church in Tulsa. Interment will follow at Barber Cemetery in Cookson. Services are under the direction of Reed-Culver Funeral Home of Tahlequah.

Charley William Swimmer was born on Dec. 5, 1932, in Tahlequah, the son of Alex William and Maude May (Scott) Swimmer. On July 25, 1963, Charley married the love of his life, Imagene Miller in Cudahy, Calif. This union was blessed with four children and a loving relationship that lasted until Imagene's death in 2007.

Charley was an airplane mechanic by trade. He worked in California at the McDonnell-Douglas Airplane Plant. The family returned to Oklahoma in 1971 to be close to the family he loved.

When he wasn't working, Charley loved to spend his spare time hunting and fishing. He had an extensive collection of guns and knives that he loved to use. When it came to sports, his favorite athletes were his own children and grandchildren. It didn't matter if it was baseball, softball, or volleyball, Charley would be on the sidelines rooting for his favorite athletes.

Charley was blessed with a wonderful sense of humor and he was a friend to anyone he met. He could share a story or a laugh with a total stranger, as well as his many friends. Charley was so proud of his children and grandchildren. His love and attention was extended to any child in need of a place to sleep or a hot meal. A Southern Baptist by faith, Charley was a member of Living Hope Baptist Church in Tulsa.

The Lord called Charley to his eternal home on April 30, 2012, in Tulsa, with his family by his side. Charley was 79 years old. He will be greatly missed by those he loved so dear, and by those lucky enough to call him friend.

Charley has been preceded in death by his parents, his wife; brother Alex Swimmer Jr.; and half-sister, Caroline.

Those left to cherish his memory include his four children, Larry Swimmer and wife Carolyn of Tahlequah, Charles Swimmer and wife Nancy of Tulsa, Kimberly Holmes and husband Derrick of Tulsa, and Alex Swimmer and wife Sheila of Tulsa. His legacy lives on in his 22 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
