Sam Earl Shumake, born March 15, 1934, died July 1, 2009 at the age of 75, after an extended period of poor health.
His ashes were buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Ardmore, near his mother’s grave.
Mr. Shumake graduated from Marietta High School in 1952 and joined the U.S. Navy. He subsequently joined the Merchant Marines and saw a greater part of the world. Following his service in the Merchant Marines, Mr. Shumake moved to Port Arthur, Texas and became a private investigator.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Elizabeth Shumake Turbeville; and his grandparents, Sam H. Robertson and Maiedee Robertson.
Survivors include his two first cousins, Barbara Hudgins of Timpson, Texas and Bill Parker of Montgomery, Texas; and friend Wilma Palermo of Port Arthur
