Arlin Louie Harris, Jr., 93, of Stillwater, died December 10, 2018.

Services are 10:00 am, Friday December 14, 2018 at the Dighton-Marler Funeral Home Chapel in Stillwater, OK. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 13, 2018 from 9:00am-8:00pm and family greeting guest from 6:00pm-8:00pm at the funeral home.

Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Ardmore, OK.

He was born August 19, 1925 in Love County, Oklahoma to Arlin L. and Lura J. Sanders Harris.

In 1943, as a 17-year-old son of a peanut farmer, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. At the age of 21 he was honorably discharged in February 1947 having attained the rank of Sergeant. During his tour of duty he served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Block Island, CVE 106, in the Pacific Theater during the Okinawa, Balikpanan Borneo Operations, servicing F6F, TBF, and Corsair aircraft; and received several commendations. Well done, Semper Fi Marine!

After the service he returned to Meadowbrook School to complete his high school education. Arlin then attended Oklahoma A&M College on the GI Bill earning a degree in Machine Tool Technology. He held a variety of jobs before joining Oklahoma State University in 1951 as a machinist in the Research Apparatus Development Lab. In 1979 he began teaching in the School of Engineering Technology, retiring in 1990.

Arlin married Frances Ruth Webb, April 5, 1953 in the First Methodist Church, Ardmore, OK.

He is survived by his wife; four children, James Arlin Harris and his wife, Gwen of Emporia, KS, Douglas Clay Harris and his wife, Vickie of Haslet, TX, Teresa Lynn Harris of Garland, TX, Debra Ann Harris Garrett of Stillwater, OK; brothers, Joe Clay Harris of Richland, WA, Dale Harris and Gale Harris of Marietta, OK; sister, Mona Fern Ellis of San Antonio, TX; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and two siblings, Earl Harris and Barbara Jean Foster.
He enjoyed trips to Colorado with family, reading WW II history, OSU sports, and visiting with family and friends.

Memorial donations can be made in Arlin name to First Baptist Church, Building Fund or Judith Karman Legacy Hospice in care of Dighton-Marler Funeral Home, 5106 North Washington, Stillwater, OK 74075.
