A visitation for Burl Bone will be held at the Craddock Funeral Home, Ardmore, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, February 12. A private family service will be held due to Covid-19.

Born July 17, 1926 in Love County to Jim Berry and Bessie Barham Bone, he passed away Monday, February 8, 2021 at his home in Ardmore.

Burl grew up in Love County, graduating from Courtney School in 1945. Burl married the love of his life Lamona Shipman on April 26, 1947, celebrating their 73rd wedding anniversary last year. They made their home in Abner. Burl was known as an energetic and hard worker. He worked for Dewey Wood for a number of years prior to starting his own business in 1955. He owned and operated his propane business and raised Angus cattle with his buddy Grady Brewster. He drilled irrigation wells to water his peanuts and grow grass and hay for his cattle. It was not unusual for Burl to work at least 18 hours a day, especially in the early years of his business. A sharp mind and savvy business sense led him to his proudest investment with Pre-Paid Legal Services with his friend D.E. Romines. He always wanted his family and friends to succeed financially and shared many investment opportunities. Even though Burl was an only child, he was raised with his numerous cousins nearby, loving them as siblings. He had a big heart, huge personality and loved his family and friends dearly. In 1986, Burl and Lamona moved from Abner to Ardmore. He later sold their propane business and retired, although he did not slow down. He loved visiting family and friends, adored his granddaughters, and loved teasing everyone, especially Lamona. He was quite the storyteller and his quick wit rarely allowed a joke or prank to be pulled on him. His boisterous laughter, larger-than-life personality, constant teasing, and endless stories are sorely missed.

Burl was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Marsha, and granddaughter, Cassie Bone.

He is survived by his wife, Lamona, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Tracey Bone; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Jeff Noland; six granddaughters, Kristyn Noland, Kacey and husband David Irlando, Hayley Bone, Alexandra Bone, Ashlyn Bone, and Cariann Bone; two great-grandsons, Rhett and Cooper Norrell; and twin great-granddaughters, Ava and Mia Irlando.

The family is very appreciative of the loving medical care he received from Sharon Hall of Family Health Center and the outstanding care from Dr. Caero Romero and Southern Oklahoma Kidney Center. We cannot express our gratitude enough for the loving care provided by Kathy Clary, June Farve, Roy Stidham and Kelli McMillen. We also thank Cross Timbers Hospice and Dr. Hamill for their help in his final days.

In lieu of flowers, Burl would have asked that you consider donation to Cross Timbers Hospice, a children’s charity, or other charity of your choice.

Contributor: Martha Montgomery Reddout "I lived across the road from him at Abner from age 4 to about age 13 or 14. He would pull pranks on our Dad, Melvin Montgomery, all the time. He will live forever in my memory."
