Information:
The following information about Mr. Joseph McAlister is extracted from his obituary printed in the Daily Ardmoreite on April 23, 1936.

He was born in Terre Haute, Indiana, in 1849. He came to Waco, Texas in 1870 and married Kate Van Cleve. In 1887 the McAlister's moved to the Chickasaw Nation and settled on a farm at Overbrook.

In addition to farming, he opened a general merchandise store. He became a member of the Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge. When a post office was established at Overbrook in June of 1887, he was named postmaster.

He was the father of two sons and three daughters. One daughter married a Criner who was connected to the Chickasaw Love families.

He is buried in the McAlister Cemetery. The cemetery and the church were obviously named in his honor although I have found no information to prove it. The cemetery is located in Carter County near the Love County boundary line and is about one mile west of Interstate 35.
