Francis Geraldine “Jerri” Smith Collier,
born on September 12,1926 departed this life on April 17, 2009 at the age of
82 years.
Jerri was the only daughter born to Arthur
and Clara Yates Smith. She had two brothers, Roy and Marvin Smith. Jerri was
born at Brock, OK, south of Lone Grove. She attended high school and
graduated from Lone Grove High School in 1942. After graduation, she served
an apprenticeship with a beautician before obtaining her license and joining
her friend, Cora Mae Gentry, as co-owner of the “Bobbette Beauty Shop” in
Ringling.
Jerri accepted Jesus as her Savior when she
was 17 years old, not realizing how the Lord would use her throughout the
years ahead.
She married Joe Hubb Collier on November 30,
1946. They became best friends and partners in marriage for the next 62
years and had three children: JoNell Collier of Muskogee, OK; Jerry Sue
Hollis of Bolivar, MO and Ron Collier of Collierville, TN. In addition to
being a loving wife and mother and an excellent homemaker for her family,
Jerri served the Lord as a Baptist pastor’s wife for at least 40 years. Joe
Hubb was never really sure when he began and when he retired, but Jerri was
right beside him all of the way.
Well after retirement age, when Jerri’s
health was at risk, she continued to keep up with Joe Hubb and, at home,
could often be found doing needlework on beautiful Christmas stockings to
make sure new members of the family had one.
Preceding Jerri in death were her loving
husband, Joe Hubb, her parents and her brother, Roy Smith.
She is survived by three children, seven
grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. Other survivors include one
brother, Marvin Smith of Springfield, MO.
Services will be held on Friday, April 24,
2009 at 2:00 P.M. in the Davis Memorial Chapel.
Burial will be held in the Lone Grove
Cemetery, Lone Grove, OK., on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 11.A.M.
