William Oliver Ferguson

Funeral services for William Oliver Ferguson, 86, of Marietta,
were held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 31, at
Griffin-Hillcrest Chapel in Ardmore, with Pastor Ronnie Carroll
and Pastor Steve Carroll officiating. Interment followed at
Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery.
William was born March 19, 1923 in Neoga, Illinois to Frances W.
Ferguson and Mary (Hornbeck) Ferguson. He passed away Tuesday,
October 27, 2009 in Marietta.
William enlisted in the United States Navy and served his
country during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He received
an Honorable Discharge while in Norfolk, Virginia. William
married Virginia Mae Warner on July 25, 1968 in Clinton,
Illinois. William lived in Decatur, Illinois and worked for
Firestone for five years. After his retirement in 1972, they
moved to Ardmore. William was an avid fisherman and loved
woodworking. He was a member of the Christ Tabernacle Church of
Marietta and has served as Sunday School Superintendent and as
Trustee of his former church home. Bill was a talented musician
and loved playing the guitar. He will be remembered as an
excellent cook. He loved his family dearly.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Jim
Ferguson and Bucky Ferguson; a sister, Mary Neunlist; and a
stepson, Larry Wayne Sliger.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Mae Ferguson of Marietta;
daughter, Kathern Sue Trosper and husband, Bill of Marietta; one
son, William Dennis Ferguson and wife, Docie Carol of Milton,
Kentucky; three stepchildren, Bobbie Sliger and Sonny Sliger of
Corsicana, Texas, and Betty Sue Paleti of California; 11
grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Ryan Rife, Dusty Rife, Jeff Langston, Brad
Lyndsey, Billy Trosper and Dylan Trosper. Honorary bearer was
Dr. J.T. O’Connor.
This obituary included a picture of Mr. Ferguson.
