Services for Merle Scott Porter, Sr. of Marietta, OK, will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 16 in Marietta's First Baptist Church with Rev. Stan Idell officiating and assisted by Sam Porter.
Interment will follow in Crinerville Cemetery, Ardmore, OK., under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Marietta.
Merle was born October 22, 1971, in Grand Prairie, TX, the son of Ronald Roy Porter and Coletha Estelle Butler. He passed away Tuesday, April 9, at UT Southwest in Dallas, TX, at the age of 47.
Merle graduated from Gainesville High School with the class of 1991. He
was a self-employed welder and pipe fitter. On April 28, 2008, Merle
married Misty Marie White in Gainesville, TX.
Merle was an outdoorsman, which started when he joined the boy scouts as
a young boy. He loved fishing, camping, arrowhead hunting, cooking "poor
boy" dinners at campouts and dreamed of panning for gold. He was an avid
coin collector. His greatest joy was giving his family and friends a
hard time.
Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Orbie & Geraldine Butler;
grandmother, Claudia Hamilton; grandfather, Roy Porter; and a brother,
Cameron Todd Willingham.
He is survived by his father and stepmother, Ron & Michelle Porter of
Marietta; his mother Coletha Butler-Porter of Ardmore; his wife, Misty
Porter of the home; three sons, Scott Porter of Whitesboro, TX, Jared
Porter of Muenster, TX, Mathew Porter of Denton, TX; one step-son
Randall Odom of Wichita Falls, TX; one step-daughter Mikayla Odom of
Marietta; two brothers, Will Porter of Marietta, Davey Crockett of
Gatesville, TX; and one sister & brother-in-law, Yvetta and Robert
Crozier of Ardmore.
Serving as casket bearers will be Scott Porter, Jared Porter, Mathew
Porter, Coby Crozier, Colt Crozier and Randall Odom. Honorary bearers
are Jim Weems, Donnie Cavitt, Richard "Deuce" Davis II, Jason White,
Biddy "Chris" White, and David Meek.
The family has requested that memorial contributions in Mr. Porter's
memory be made in care of the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, 100 E. Main,
Marietta, OK 73448.
