The U . S. Army has verified Carter County's PFC. Phillip
F. Gaines  was killed Saturday night , April 12, 1968 , 
by sniper fire. 

He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Luther Gaines and  was married to the former Donna Sue Kyle 18 months  ago. 

Gaines was 19 years old and a graduate of Berwin  High School. 

He had been in Vietnam since November. He is the latest Oklahoma war victim.
